This site was for a Kiwanis mentorship program for college students. Our user-focused design process helped the organizers uncover missing details and plan the program before launching. One unique aspect of the website was creating a system to match students with mentors and get admins to schedule their meetings. We found a simple plugin for the job, and it has been working great! Scope of Work
A Scope of Work (SOW) document is a formal document that defines the specific tasks, deliverables, timelines, and expectations for a particular project or contract. It serves as a guide to ensure both parties (usually the client and the contractor/service provider) have a clear understanding of what is to be accomplished, how it will be done, and the standards or guidelines to be followed.
Creating the scope of work was not too hard. Kiwanis wanted a mentorship like website, and thinking of possible things for such a project was not too challenging.
Wireframe PDF
A wireframe is a visual blueprint or schematic representation of a website’s layout, structure, and functionality. It serves as a basic framework that outlines the arrangement of elements like headers, footers, navigation menus, content areas, buttons, and other key components without focusing on design details such as colors, text, or images. Wireframes help designers, developers, and stakeholders plan the user experience (UX) and ensure a clear, functional website structure before moving on to more detailed design and development stages.
Getting to build the wireframe was the beginning to the fun. The client told us relatively what he wanted, and we emphasized on that and created a thought out wireframe with everything that the client wanted and more.
User Stories and Flows PDF
User stories and flows are tools used in development to define and map out user interactions with a system. A user story is a brief, simple description of a feature or functionality from the perspective of an end user, typically following the format: “As a [user], I want to [do something] so that I can [achieve a goal].” This helps prioritize development based on user needs. A user flow is a visual representation of the steps a user takes to complete a task or goal within an application or website. It outlines the sequence of interactions and decisions a user makes, ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience by mapping out the logical progression of actions. Together, user stories and flows guide the design and development process, ensuring the product meets user expectations and delivers a seamless experience.
Kiwanis helps college students connect with mentors in the students' field of interest. Thinking of the different users was pretty easy, as there are only Mentors, Mentees, and Blog Readers. Creating the user flows was a little more challenging as we had to get in the position of the user and think of possible paths the user might take.
